Gardening Tips

Warmer weather is on the way and we’re looking forward to days spent entertaining in the garden. Now the cold and rain of winter has passed, it’s time to nurture your outdoor area to transform it into a relaxing haven, ready for summer.

We’ve put together five top tips to help you design the perfect outdoor living space and create the ideal area to chill out with friends and family members.

1. Create a blank canvas

Start by throwing away any items which are old or unused as they can clutter the area and make it look tired. If you have a lawn or flowerbeds, make sure to mow the grass and weed the area so you can plant some fresh new flowers ready to blossom over summer. This will ensure you have a blank canvas to work with and will help you visualise your end goal.

2. Introduce seating

Garden Furniture

Once you have tidied up the area and removed any unwanted items, it’s time to invest in some comfortable furniture. This will transform the area and provide somewhere to entertain loved ones or relax. Consider the size of your outdoor living space before purchasing – it’s important to utilise the area and not overcrowd the space. Opting for garden furniture which is strong and durable is key, but you also want it to be comfortable. Rattan furnishings make a great choice as they look stylish and elegant, but are also durable and weather-resistant. Choose a colour and style which suits the space and get ready for some relaxation time outdoors.

3. Accessorise

Garden Fire Pit

Patio heaters and fire pits are a great way to extend the fun into the evenings with some added warmth – and they create a great focal point too. They come in a range of shapes and sizes, so if your outdoor area is on the small side, opt for a fire pit which won’t take up too much space. For bigger areas, why not invest in an outdoor cooker so you can entertain family and friends over the summer with some grilled treats. To save on space, why not purchase a heater which doubles up as an outdoor grill for a great multi-functional option?

4. Add some colour

Upgrading your garden for summer doesn’t need to break the bank – you can add plants and brightly coloured flowers as a simple yet effective way to brighten up the space. Purchase potted plants to save time, or for those green-fingered gardeners, start by sectioning areas accordingly, then plant the more striking flowers in the most visible locations. For smaller outdoor areas, wall plants and hanging flowers are a great space-saving idea and will help to brighten up the area without compromising the floor space.

5. Maintain

Gardening Tools

Once you have spent time and money upgrading your outdoor living space, don’t forget to put some additional time aside to manage the upkeep. This needn’t take too much effort, but it’s important to nurture your garden by watering the plants, weeding and mowing the lawn regularly so you can maintain the beautiful surroundings which you have worked so hard to create.
