What better place to relax and unwind than outdoors? However, our busy lifestyles often mean we can’t give our outdoor spaces the love and attention they deserve.

With spring officially here, it’s the ideal opportunity to transform neglected gardens and outdoor spaces, just in time for making the most of the English sunshine.

We’ve put together some top tips to help design the perfect outdoor living area, making a simple and fun task of creating an enjoyable space to both de-stress and entertain family and friends.

1. Start preparations early.

It’s important to begin nurturing our gardens as soon as the opportunity arises in order to really make the most of them and watch them flourish over the coming months. Getting to work on cleaning up the area will ensure we have the perfect platform to build a tranquil outdoor living space. Start by decluttering the area and throwing away any unwanted items, then tidy up the space by mowing the lawn and weeding, ready to start planting.

2. Create a comfortable seating area.

Investing in comfortable furniture is crucial when transforming an outdoor space and making it an area to really enjoy spending time in - but it also needs to be practical and able to withstand harsher weather conditions. Opt for something which is strong and durable, but also provides optimum comfort.  Poly rattan furnishings offer great durability and are low maintenance, yet they are attractive, elegant and can be found in a variety of colours and styles.

3. Make the most of your space.

The size of an outdoor area shouldn’t determine how much time is spent there – it’s important to utilise the space we have by understanding what will work well within it. Patio heaters and fire pits are a great way to offer some warmth outdoors and also help to create the perfect ambiance for socialising with loved ones as we enter barbeque season. Why not select a heater which will also double up as an outdoor cooker, as a great space-saving option?

4. Add plants and flowers to brighten things up.

A simple yet effective way to spruce up an outdoor area is to add contemporary plants and colourful flowers – it really is fantastic for brightening the space. Little ones will love the opportunity to get creative in the garden, so why not turn the whole family into green-fingered gardeners with an afternoon of planting?  Plants are a great way to enhance flower beds, to section areas of focus or even create a prominent feature, such as an outdoor flower. Don’t be afraid to get creative.

5. Maintenance is key.

It’s one thing to invest money in an outdoor living space, but don’t forget to dedicate time to upkeep it. Maintaining a garden needn’t be a challenge and setting aside regular time each month to water the plants, weed and mow the lawn will allow for greater rewards outdoors.
