If you’re looking for the adventure of a lifetime, look no further than Thailand, with its tropical beaches, incredible nightlife, and tasty street food.

From peaceful elephant sanctuaries to all-night beach parties, here are five things you need to do if you visit Thailand.

1. Visit the Koh San road in Bangkok

Described as ‘the centre of the backpacking universe’ in the book, The Beach, and featured in films like The Hangover 2, the Koh San road is one of the most famous roads in the world. On a 1-km long strip, you’ll discover budget guesthouses and mid-range hotels, market stalls cooking up exotic street food like barbecued insects, and ping pong shows.

2. Visit an elephant sanctuary in Chiang Mai

Instead of riding and exploiting elephants, more people are joining the movement to create a nurturing environment for wildlife. Chiang Mai has sanctuaries like Save the Elephant Foundation and Elephant Jungle Sanctuary where tourists can feed, bath, and play with elephants in a peaceful environment.

3. Go diving in Koh Tao

Known for its stunning tropical coral reefs and species including whale sharks, rays, hawksbill and green turtles, Koh Tao is an island famous for diving. Sali Rock, also called ‘Hin Bai’ is one of the best diving sites in Thailand and is the perfect place to dive with large tuna, Giant Groupers, King mackerel, Chevron Barracudas, whale sharks and manta rays. Twins, also called Twin Peaks, is the ideal site for those looking to dive with small marine life like shrimp, sea horses, moray eels, angel fishes, and yellow tail barracudas.

4. Experience the party life of Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan is Thailand’s party spot. Haad Rin is the place to stay as it has the largest collection of bars and clubs in the Gulf of Thailand. The all-night Full Moon beach parties are legendary, with neon painted party goers dancing the night away.

Relax in Ko Samui

Ko Samui is Thailand’s second largest island and is know for its palm-fringed beaches, coconut groves, dense, mountainous rainforest, and luxury resorts and spas (pure bliss!).
