Revealed: The Engagement Gifts Couples Really Want
Who doesn’t love an engagement party? It’s the chance to celebrate with loved ones over a refreshing glass of bubbly and toast to the engagement. However, this isn’t always the easiest occasion to gift for and it looks like newly engaged couples are looking to mark the milestone with something a little different than the traditional gifts that spring to mind.
We surveyed over 1,000 adults in the UK and found that over half (54%) of British adults would prefer to receive cash or a gift card as an engagement gift – more than any other gift. It was revealed as a top choice for those soon-to-be married couples who wish to use it to help pay for their wedding. We all know how with weddings being such a huge cost investment, a little help towards the big day goes a long way.
What’s more, almost 1 in 5 would like to receive an experience day which they could enjoy as a couple, such as a spa day. What a great gift idea this is, especially considering how stressful planning a wedding can be.
Personalised gifts were also high on the wish list of British adults, such as a framed photo or some bespoke artwork. Not only are these totally unique but they make a great keepsake to remember the occasion.
A bottle of champagne was another top choice for 16% of engaged couples who feel this is the perfect way to toast to the occasion.
It’s clear that British couples are moving away from traditional gifting and are keen to celebrate their engagement in different ways, whether it be a relaxing day at the spa or a contribution towards paying for the wedding.
The research also explored the modern-day expectations around engagement celebrations and interestingly, almost 1 in 10 say they would consider getting engaged without ever actually saying “I do”. Perhaps this is the reason why so many engaged couples are eager to plan such a special and memorable engagement party to celebrate.
This changing attitude towards engagements could also explain the success of parties which celebrate them. As many as 67% of Brits have recently attended a dedicated party or celebration to mark a loved one’s engagement. This demonstrates the emphasis they put on marking the milestone and why choosing the perfect gift is such an important decision.
With gift cards and cash being the most-wished for engagement gift, it’s worthwhile considering how beneficial a financial gift can be. It allows engaged couples to help plan the perfect wedding and what’s more, it takes away the stress and worry of choosing the right gift, so you can rest assured your contribution is a great one.
