Top Tips to Help Prepare for National BBQ Week

National BBQ Week is just around the corner, so what better way to welcome the sun than by hosting an outdoor gathering full of delicious food and refreshing beverages. It’s the perfect opportunity to spend the day entertaining friends and family – but it’s also important to make sure preparations have been made for the occasion.

We’re sharing some top tips to help with hosting the best BBQ so your guests can enjoy National BBQ Week the way it should be celebrated.

BBQ

1. Decorate the space

First things first, it’s time to prep your outdoor spaces so that they’re ready for hungry guests to arrive. It’s worthwhile removing any unwanted weeds or overgrown plants, replacing them with some traditional potted plants to brighten things up. It’s also a great idea to give patio areas a good clean with a stiff brush - a simple but effective way to reinvigorate the space. To finish the look, why not add some beautiful accessories to decorate the area – outdoor lights, throws and cushions placed over chairs are a great way to add some soft finishing touches to the garden.

2. Get Ready to Grill

Before preparations can be made and the fun can begin, it’s time to kit out the garden with a stylish outdoor cooker, offering the perfect platform for grilling outdoors. Whether the plan is to host a large garden party or smaller social gathering, there is a selection of barbecues from John Lewis which are perfectly suited to any occasion. For smaller spaces, fire pits that can double up as a barbecue are a fantastic option to utilise the area and will provide guests with delicious barbecued food as well as warmth.

3. Refreshing beverages

Offering a great selection of drinks is also key to hosting the perfect BBQ. Purchase some refreshing drinks and then add some additional fruit to add that summery taste. Making sure there are drinks with and without alcohol is also key – fruity mocktails are a great way to provide an exciting choice for those who want something non-alcoholic. Stock up the fridge with a selection of beers and wines – this offers an array of choice and will help to create the perfect BBQ drinks menu.

4. Plan the Perfect Menu

We all know that when it comes to planning a barbecue, the most important item on the agenda is the food. With meat-eaters in mind, it’s time to stock up on the traditional burgers and sausages so there is enough tasty food to satisfy guests. It’s also important to consider those who have taken meat out of their diet so that vegetarians will be well looked after and won’t go hungry. Colourful salad bowls and vegetable grain sides make a great accompaniment, as well as a selection of condiments to add that dash of flavour to the menu.

5. Pick a great playlist

With the food and drinks menu planned, it’s now time to select a playlist filled with summer classics to help everyone get in the party mood. This will help to create the perfect atmosphere so guests can sit back and enjoy some tasty barbecued treats whilst listening to some great music.
