Christmas shopping is no easy task, especially when it feels like you have an endless number of friends and family members to buy for. Every purchase feels like a victory and one to tick off the never-ending Christmas list – but there’s usually one person that seems impossible to buy for.
We surveyed 1,001 adults in the UK and found it is mums who shoppers find the most difficult to buy for at Christmas. 66% of people we spoke to admit they struggle to choose a Christmas gift for at least one friend or family member – clearly we put a lot of pressure on ourselves when it comes to gifting over the festive season.
Apparently, it isn’t just mums who are proving problematic for the Christmas shop, as dads, husbands and brothers also took top spots in the list. Everyone likes to buy loved ones a gift they will enjoy at Christmas, but why is it so many of us are losing sleep over finding the perfect present?
The research found that 38% struggle to find the right present because the person already has everything they need, while 22% say the struggle should be a compliment as the more someone means to them, the more they will stress about getting the right gift.
However, 1 in 5 of us simply don’t know what to buy our loved ones, whilst 19% say the recipient is too fussy. Let’s face it, we all know someone who is never happy with their gift and needs to work on their “thank you, I love it” face.
This could be why more than 1 in 3 people think someone in their family would re-gift a present they were given. And they would be right! 11% actually confessed to re-gifting presents in the past. It’s harmless, as long as you don’t accidentally gift it back to the person who originally gave it to you.
It’s important not to be phased when it comes to difficult gifts - be confident in what you choose for loved ones. We often put too much pressure on ourselves to pick the perfect gift, especially when we’re not sure what ‘perfect’ looks like.
The main point to remember is it’s the thought that counts and not necessarily the material nature of the gift. For those difficult to buy people, why not gift them a One4all Gift Card this Christmas - a sure way to put a smile on their face and avoid a daunting unveiling on Christmas day.
